Jasmine rice has a extremely high GI (glycemic index) of 109, Basmati rice is only 58. So healthwise, Basmati rice is much healthier. Better yet is brown Basmati rice. Basmati rice is a fluffier variety that does not stick together like Jasmine rice.

Reply:yes there is. jasmine rice is much fluffier than basmati rice. basmati rice is also much dryer than jasmine, and takes a longer time to cook. generally, basmati rice is used in indian cuisine, like in biryanis and stuff, while jasmine rice is used in other asian cuisine, such as chinese or thai. i personally prefer jasmine rice.
oh, and good quality jasmine rice has a very nice fragrance (hence its name)
