When and how should I prune a winter flowering jasmine?

I realise this is a similar question to one just asked. I put mine in only last Oct/Nov and it has flowered well although still very small. Should I leave it for this season? Should I give it some feed, and if so, what and when?

Winter Jasmines are pretty tough, you could lightly prune it to a nice neat shape as it has finished flowering, sometimes th ends of the shoots die back, just cut these off when you notice them. If your soil is ok then its unlikely that it needs a feed. Shrubs are pretty low maintenance things.
Reply:I wouldn't prune it, as it is so newly planted. Just let it settle in.

I'd probably give it a good mulch of compost this year, and it may surprise you and root some of its branches, helped by this water retaining mulch.

Late spring onwards is a good time to feed, preferably with a slow release fertilizer, that will be good for the summer.

For ongoing plant management, move branches around to where you want them to grow, prune back any damaged or dead branches too. Otherwise, let it climb or tumple where it likes, and it will amaze you with its winter flowers. I've grown some plants in my garden for over 20 years, and they're star performers - I don't give them too much attention, just let them grow naturally.

Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob
Reply:After it stops flowering, probably some time in May. Mine is still in flower at the moment. I've never fed it and it does very well. It's been in for around ten years.
Reply:Prune back after flowering to strong buds or young lower branches. On older plants, cut back about a quarter of the old shoots to the base. It can be pruned to make a 3-foot tall hedge. Every 5 to 6 years, rejuvenate the shrub by cutting it down to within 6 inches of the soil. you can prune any time after flowering
Reply:after all the frosts have gone
Reply:As soon as it has stopped flowering.
