Rice is coated with corn starch to keep it from sticking together. Rinsing it off before you cook it cuts down on the amount of starch in the water.
Why is it necessary to rinse jasmine rice before cooking it?
Cause it's dirty. You want to remove and impurities before cooking it.
Reply:I have never rinsed jasmine rice before cooking it. I wasn't aware it was necessary. As a matter of fact the brand I am loyal to doesn't mention rinsing the rice at all.
Reply:This is the case with most types of rice. It removes the starch, so the rice will be fluffy and light, not sticky when cooked. You can also try putting it in a sieve and rinsing it in boiling water several times during the cooking process.
Reply:Have you ever seen any pictures of India in National Geographic? Seems like all the stuff that can touch food on the way to your kitchen might warrant a safety wash.
Reply:all rice has filthy dirt and other things. they are first washed, but you might need to wash again...to be absoulutely certain that it's clean
