What's the difference between jasmine & basmati rice, ie. flavor, texture, aroma etc etc.?

basmati is just a variety of rice. I think basmati is shorter and fatter than typical white rice.

Jasmine rice is infused with something (assumably - Jasmine?) and has a sweet flowery flavor. It's very good. Jasmine rice looks like basic white rice, maybe a bit stickier.

Jasmine does have a slight flowery aroma. Basmati on the other hand reminds me of the smell of popcorn. I like them both.
Reply:Basmati is a type of rice. It is from India and is served in most Indian restaurants. The grains are longer and thinner it is not infused with any type of spices like Jasmine rice is.
Reply:There is nothing like the aroma of jasmine rice. I tried it for something new and I'm hooked, it is a sticky rice. Basmati is good, my friend won't use anything but, it cooks up more as separate grains, if that is your preference. It's the new great debate with us! I use arborio when I make risotto, which is quite often. I serve it right when it's done for the best taste and texture, if you let it sit too long it becomes unpleasantly pasty. Use converted rice if you like all the grains to be individual and, to me, firm. It's relatively inexpensive so experiment to find your favorite. Have fun! (try that jasmine) note: it's not infused, it's just a different variety
